Disposable Vape Cost Calculator: Your Real Annual Spend
What is vaping really costing you?
Disposable-vape purchases can feel small because they happen one device at a time. This disposable vape cost calculator for Australia turns your own purchase pattern into weekly, monthly, yearly and five-year totals.
The calculation is simple, private and based entirely on the numbers you enter. It does not estimate nicotine intake, product safety or treatment cost. Its job is to make a fragmented spending habit visible.
Information checked: 29 September 2026. Single-use disposable vapes cannot lawfully be sold to consumers in Australia.
Calculate your disposable-vape spending
Enter the average amount you pay for one disposable vape and how many days it usually lasts. Use your real pattern, not the puff count printed on the device.
The results estimate purchase spending only. They do not include future price changes, health costs, travel, treatment costs or devices that are lost, confiscated or replaced early. A five-year figure is a straight projection, not a forecast.
Quick answer: how much can disposable vaping cost per year?
There is no reliable single amount because price and usage vary substantially. Someone paying $45 every seven days spends approximately $2,348 over a year. Someone paying $55 every four days spends approximately $5,022.
The Australian Parliamentary Budget Office's September 2026 costing model used an assumption of 58 illicit disposable devices per year at $37.80 each - an estimated annual retail cost of $2,209. The PBO is explicit that its assumptions are for fiscal modelling, are highly uncertain and are not a forecast of an individual's behaviour.

How the disposable vape cost calculator works
The calculator converts two numbers—price per device and days per device—into a daily rate. It then applies that rate across standard time periods:
- Weekly cost: device price × 7 ÷ days per device
- Monthly cost: device price × 365.2425 ÷ 12 ÷ days per device
- Yearly cost: device price × 365.2425 ÷ days per device
- Five-year cost: yearly estimate × 5
The result is more useful than a 'cost per puff' calculation because advertised puff counts do not show how long a device actually lasts you. Your purchase frequency captures your real behaviour.
Do not use the calculator to compare illicit products
It is designed to expose spending and support a quitting decision, not to find the cheapest disposable vape. Single-use disposable vapes cannot lawfully be sold in Australia, regardless of whether the seller claims they contain no nicotine.
Example disposable-vape spending patterns
These examples are mathematical illustrations, not typical prices, legal retail prices or recommendations.
| Example pattern | Approx. monthly spend | Approx. yearly spend | Approx. five-year spend |
|---|---|---|---|
| $35 every 10 days | $107 | $1,278 | $6,391 |
| $45 every 7 days | $196 | $2,348 | $11,741 |
| $50 every 5 days | $304 | $3,652 | $18,262 |
| $55 every 4 days | $419 | $5,022 | $25,110 |
A small change in how quickly a device is replaced can have a much bigger effect than a small change in price. That is why a real four-week purchase history is more revealing than trying to remember a “usual” week.
Why disposable-vape spending is easy to underestimate
Purchases are fragmented
One payment may not feel significant. The annual total only becomes obvious when dozens of purchases are placed on one timeline.
Use has no clear stopping point
A disposable can be used in brief moments throughout the day, making the frequency harder to notice than a defined cigarette break.
Replacement timing varies
Stress, social events, working from home or a stronger craving period can make a device run out faster than expected.
Extra purchases disappear
Backup devices, impulse buys, card surcharges, delivery and replacing a lost device can be forgotten when estimating from memory.
The calculator is most accurate when you use bank transactions or receipts from the last four weeks. If you bought more than one device at a time, divide the total purchase by the number of devices before entering the price.
What does Australian Government modelling say?
In September 2026, the Parliamentary Budget Office published a costing framework for nicotine prices. For fiscal-modelling purposes, it assumed an illicit disposable price of $37.80, annual consumption of 58 devices and annual retail spending of $2,209.
That number is useful context, but it is not a consumer benchmark. The PBO says assumptions concerning illicit markets are highly uncertain and that its modelling should not be treated as a forecast of behaviour. Your bank statement is a better source for your own cost.
Use external estimates as a sense-check, not your answer
If your calculator result differs from a national model, that does not mean the calculator is wrong. Price, device size, use intensity, lost devices and buying patterns vary. Personal records beat market averages for personal budgeting.
Are disposable vapes legal in Australia?
Single-use disposable vapes cannot lawfully be supplied to consumers in Australia. The prohibition applies regardless of nicotine content. Vape shops, tobacconists, convenience stores, service stations and ordinary online retailers cannot legally sell vaping goods.
The lawful framework is limited to compliant therapeutic vaping goods supplied through participating pharmacies for smoking cessation or the management of nicotine dependence. The pharmacy pathway does not include single-use disposable vapes.
Personal importation from an overseas seller is also prohibited, even when a consumer has a prescription. A low price, “nicotine-free” label or overseas checkout does not create a lawful exception.

Try a seven-day vape spending audit
Before changing anything, measure one ordinary week. This exposes both the money and the situations driving the purchases.
- Record every purchase. Include the amount, time, location, surcharge, delivery fee and whether it was planned.
- Mark every device change. Note when a device runs out, is lost, tastes burnt, stops working or is replaced early.
- Notice the trigger. Was the purchase connected with stress, alcohol, work, driving, social pressure, boredom or fear of running out?
- Check the bank total. Search transactions rather than relying on memory. Include cash by adding it separately.
- Enter the average. Divide total device spending by the number of devices, then divide seven days by the number used to estimate days per device.
- Choose a destination for the money. Give the potential avoided spending a job: debt, savings, a trip, fitness, family spending or something visible.
Turn the annual number into a quit plan
A large total can create motivation, but motivation alone may not manage nicotine withdrawal. Pair the financial reason with a practical treatment and behavioural plan.
| Insight | Possible action | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Most purchases happen after work | Change the route home and schedule another activity during that window. | It interrupts the cue before the purchase occurs. |
| Fear of running out drives backup purchases | Ask a clinician or pharmacist about managing withdrawal and cravings. | It addresses the dependence behind the spending rather than only the transaction. |
| Alcohol doubles weekly use | Reduce or avoid alcohol during the early quit period and plan a response before social events. | It removes a powerful trigger while new routines are forming. |
| The yearly total is motivating | Create an automatic weekly transfer matching your previous average spend. | The benefit becomes visible instead of disappearing into everyday cash flow. |
Plan for the craving - not just the purchase
Most vapes contain nicotine, which can cause dependence. When nicotine levels fall, cravings and withdrawal can push someone back to the same seller even after a strong decision to stop.
Individual cravings often pass within a few minutes. The Australian Government's '4 Ds' can give you a short plan for that window:
- Delay: wait a few minutes before acting.
- Deep breathe: take three slow breaths.
- Distract: walk, message someone, change rooms or start a task.
- Drink water: sip slowly while the urge settles.
Approved nicotine replacement therapies and other treatment options may also be considered. Ask a doctor or pharmacist what is appropriate rather than choosing a dose from an unknown disposable-vape label.
Make the saving visible from day one
If your calculated weekly spend is $60, transfer $60 to a separate savings account after your first vape-free week. The amount becomes evidence of progress and a reward you can see.
What about the cost of getting help?
Treatment costs vary according to the option recommended, the pharmacy, product, follow-up and whether PBS support applies. A fair comparison is not 'illegal disposable price versus one consultation'; it is your current total spending versus the complete treatment plan and the goal of reducing dependence.
Kicko's consultations are $0. Any medicine, therapeutic product, dispensing, delivery or other pharmacy cost is separate and should be confirmed before you proceed. A clinical assessment does not guarantee a prescription or a particular treatment.

Frequently asked questions
How does the disposable vape cost calculator work?
It divides the price of one device by the number of days it lasts, then projects that daily rate across a week, average month, year and five years.
What price should I enter?
Use your average actual amount per device, including recurring surcharges or delivery. Review the last four purchases if the amount varies.
What if I buy several disposable vapes at once?
Divide the total purchase price by the number of devices to find the average price per device. Then use the average number of days one device lasts you.
Does the calculator show exactly how much I will save by quitting?
No. It estimates current purchase spending. Actual avoided spending may differ because prices and behaviour change, and a treatment plan can have separate costs.
How much does the average disposable-vape habit cost in Australia?
There is no reliable single personal average. The Parliamentary Budget Office used an annual figure of $2,209 for an illicit-disposable assumption in its September 2026 fiscal model, but warned that illicit-market assumptions are uncertain and are not forecasts.
Are disposable vapes legal to buy in Australia?
No. Single-use disposable vapes cannot lawfully be sold to consumers. Non-pharmacy retailers cannot legally sell any type of vaping good, and the pharmacy pathway does not permit disposable vapes.
Can I order a cheaper disposable vape from overseas?
No. Personal importation of vaping goods from overseas retailers is prohibited, including where a consumer has a prescription.
Why do I spend more than I expect on vaping?
Purchases are fragmented, replacement timing changes and extra devices, delivery, surcharges or lost products are easy to forget. A four-week bank transaction review gives a more reliable total.
Can a clinician help me quit disposable vapes if I do not smoke?
Yes. A health professional can assess vaping-related nicotine dependence even if you do not currently smoke cigarettes, then discuss behavioural support and clinically appropriate treatment options.
Does Kicko charge for the clinical consultation?
Kicko's consultations are $0. Separate pharmacy, treatment, dispensing, delivery or product costs may apply and should be confirmed before proceeding.
